Habits: Are You REALLY In Control Of Your Day?

Are your habits controlling you or are you in control?Most of us have grand dreams, but it seems like there’s not enough hours in the day to get everything done. Am I right? Life is a balancing act. I’m not convinced that we can “have it all”, but I am convinced that if we prioritize what’s truly important to us, we can have all of the important things we truly desire. Speaking of that, have you ever sat down and thought about the top 3-5 things that truly matter to you? For example, your relationship with your significant other, making time for yourself, spending more time with God, playing with your kids, etc.

I hadn’t either until just the other day. I get distracted really easily and bounce from one thing to another, especially when I’m needed for something. (Who doesn’t?) It’s definitely something that I’m trying to work on more and I feel like I’m at a point where I need to be better organized. We all just have 24-hours in a day and if those hours are spent more productively then I believe I will come out having more free time in the end. We shall see after this little experience of mine is conducted.

So the most important thing I realized is that I need to change some habits. After all, we are creatures of habit and if our habits aren’t in line with our goals and dreams, we won’t achieve them. It’s as simple as that.

The biggest habit that I need to change is just bouncing around from messages on Facebook to checking my email for questions to checking my phone for texts and on and on. Yes, everything is related to business (I don’t remember the last time I perused Facebook to actually see what was going on in someone’s life.), but I’m not being productive with my time. Bouncing around just gets me more distracted in the long run.

My solution?

Schedule my day.

When I first wake up, I check Facebook and my email for any messages. If there’s nothing super important waiting for me, I read a personal development or business book for 30 minutes while drinking my coffee. I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to feed my mind with information in order to be a better all-around girl. Improving myself and dedicating that time to myself will only help me to be better in my role as a business leader, mom, wife, friend, and so on. It all starts with me and will trickle down into all facets of my life.

When I schedule time, I’m talking scheduling when to check my Facebook messages. When to catch up and reply to emails. When to schedule calls. When to skype. When to take time to exercise or do Yoga. When to spend time with my husband. When to play with my son. When to hang out with friends. When to work on my Younique business. When to put on my 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara in the AM. Everything.

This has been on my mind for quite some time now. While reading the “8 Fundamentals To Earn A Million Dollars in Network Marketing” by John Di Lemme this morning (Day 1!), I came across a quote. It really resonated with me and just reaffirmed that I need to change my habits in order to achieve everything that I want. My habits need to be in line with my goals so that I can get to where I want to be and live the life I’ve always wanted to live. When I read the quote initially, my eyes kind of skimmed over it, but then I really took the time to read everything. And then I read it again. And again. It’s that good. Hope you enjoy it and hope that it sparks something inside of you to change a negative habit into a positive one!

And I’m not going to lie; I think it’s going to be really hard to do this. I’m not one to follow a schedule. I’m way more of a go-with-the-flow kind of girl, so while this will be different from what I’m used to, I’m up for the challenge because I see so many positives that will come from it.
