Whether you want smoother hair, lip color that doesn’t fade, or to make a luxe body scrub that will hydrate your skin, look no further! These beauty tips will help you have all of the above and more. The best part? Most of these beauty tricks are already things that you should have at your house.
1. The perfect blow out
For shinier hair and to get the sleekest blow out possible, don’t start out with a brush. First, make sure you divide your hair into three sections (semi circle around the crown and then in the middle of your head). Then focus on one of the bottom sections first. Always work from the bottom of your hair up to the top. Once each section is completely dry, combine it with the other damp hair and blow-dry those together.
2. Long-lasting lip color
To keep your lip color from fading, use primer first. Apply applying a small dab of primer (face or eye), let it dry before applying your lipstick. Once you apply your lipstick, your color will last a lot longer due to the primer.
3. Reduce facial puffiness
You can use cool cucumber slices from the refrigerator, as that’s always been a tried and true way to reduce puffiness around eyes or you can try a milk compress for something new. Use a brand new kitchen sponge that’s been soaked in cold milk and apply with pressure on your face. It’s a very refreshing way to help reduce puffiness and to pamper yourself a bit.
4. Hydrate your skin with a body scrub
In order to have glowing skin, the dead skin must be removed, which is why doing a routine body scrub is crucial. You can make a body scrub from ingredients in your kitchen (avocado, cornmeal, sugar, oatmeal, salt, honey, extra virgin olive oil, and even coffee) that will liven up your skin and rejuvenate it.
A favorite body scrub of mine that really helps soothe any itchiness includes:
- 1 mashed up ripe avocado
- 1 Tbsp sea salt
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp honey
- ¼ cup of oatmeal
5. Help with dry, cracked lips
Coconut oil helps with just about anything, especially dry, chapped lips. When the weather gets cooler outside, lips become drier and need more moisture. Rub coconut oil on your lips during the day or at night to help hydrate your lips to becoming more smooth instead of cracked.
6. Help hair with DIY hair masks
Whether you want to extend your color, hydrate your hair, or thicken your hair, do it yourself hair masks is the way to go! You can find the ingredients in your pantry and it doesn’t get that much easier! Eggs, yogurt, honey, sour cream, beer, avocadoes, coconut oil, and banana are just a few things that can be put in a DIY hair mask.
Here’s one of my favorites that hydrates my hair and helps with any winter itchiness:
- 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp coconut oil
- 1/2 mashed avocado
I put it on my hair from the roots to the ends, put a shower cap on, and leave it in my hair for 20 minutes. After I shampoo and condition as normal.
7. Learn how to highlight and contour your face and chest
You can give the illusion of a thinner face, smaller nose, or bigger chest by knowing how to highlight and contour these areas correctly. Highlighting and contouring takes your face from being one color to being more dimensional, thus highlighting the better parts that you can show off.
8. Filling in your eyebrows
There are so many uses for spoons when it comes to beauty tricks! Use a spoon to get the perfect eyebrow arch when filling in your brows. Place the spoon under your brow so that they both curve together. Use an eyeliner or shadow to draw a faint line above the curve and then fill in from the top of the brow to the bottom. Perfect brows in no time!
9. Easy beachy waves
If you have wavy hair, you are in luck! Go to bed with your hair wet to give it a little extra volume and natural wave. In the morning, take your curling iron or flat-iron (whichever you prefer), and work with the natural wave by adding more waves. This is such an easy way to get effortless waves in your hair. (I get complimented all of the time when I do this and everyone is so surprised when I tell them just how I got my waves.)
10. Blow-dry your lashes for the perfect curl
The blow dryer is your friend for getting the perfect curl in your lashes. You can use the blow dryer to warm up your lash curler prior to putting on your mascara or you can use it after putting on your mascara. Heat your lash curler with the blow dryer for just a few seconds and then curl your lashes. The warm curler really helps to achieve a good curl. After you’ve put on your mascara, put the blow dryer on the low setting and blow dry your lashes to really make them stand out!
11. Use old mascara wands for the best brow brush
Not sure what to do with all of your old mascara wands? Clean them off and use them as a brow brush. Comb your brows with the wands or you can even fill them in with the wands.
12. Swirl your mascara wand
Never pump your mascara wand in the tube. When the wand is pumped, air gets trapped inside, which causes your mascara to dry up quicker. Instead of pumping, swirl your wand inside the tube. No air will get trapped and your mascara will live a good long life.
13. Embrace dry shampoo
Find your favorite dry shampoo and use it. It’s not good to shampoo your hair daily because all of the natural oils leave your hair when you do this. Space out when you shampoo your hair and use dry shampoo in between. Your hair will be healthier and you’ll save a lot of time!
14. Mascara on your eyelids?
Sometimes mascara ends up on our lids and can be a pain to remove. Make sure when you apply your mascara (including 3D fiber lashes mascara) that your chin is raised. A chin that dips down will only help the mascara to get more on your lids. If you still have the dreaded mascara on your lids, take your eye makeup brush and swirl it in a circular motion where the mascara is. Swirling your eye makeup brush will help blend the mascara dots into your eye shadow and is an easy fix. Don’t use Q-tips, as that just wipes away your mascara and your shadow that you probably worked hard on.
